Most folks are familiar with the concept of a 'last will and
testament'.  It is the means of distributing assets to our loved ones and favorite charities, and to affect other important decisions at the time of our death. But ... have you ever considered writing an ethical will?

An ethical will is a way to share values, beliefs, blessings, life lessons, hopes and dreams with family in the same way that a will of inheritance provides instructions for passing on valuables.*

Reasons for writing an ethical will

  • We all want to be remembered.

  • It gives an opportunity to record the things about life that are truly important to us.

  • It provides an opportunity to share values, beliefs and life lessons which in turn reveals our individuality.
  • Our family and future generations can have insight in to what is important to us.

  • By recounting what makes us unique, a sense of accountability follows us.

  • At the end of life, writing an ethical will can help us to face our own mortality and to create a document that helps us to transcend life.

A thought to consider:  What would you give right now to read a letter from your Great Grandparents that described  the lessons they learned about living life, their personal beliefs and their hopes and dreams for the future?
